The INDONESIA restaurant was founded in 1982 by four French and four Indonesians, with the aim of creating jobs for Indonesian political refugees whose diplomas were not recognized in France. This venture had several objectives: the integration of Indonesian refugees and the promotion of Indonesian culture through regular events such as exhibitions, dance performances, and debate dinners. INDONESIA is unique in being organized as a SCOP (Société Coopérative et Participative).

Thus, the company, named SCOP Fraternité, belongs to all employees, each of whom has a role in managing the restaurant. Unlike traditional businesses, SCOPs are characterized by sharing all profits among their employees. The restaurant embodies the concept of gotong-royong, a tradition of mutual assistance practiced for centuries in Indonesia to organize the distribution of water in rice fields without favoring anyone.

After more than 40 years in operation, we can say today that the INDONESIA restaurant and SCOP Fraternité are a success. They represent an exemplary experience of cooperation among diverse individuals and a successful partnership in the field of mutual aid.

Finally, and most importantly, INDONESIA is one of the few restaurants in Paris offering traditional Indonesian cuisine, allowing you to discover its original and refined flavors in an ambiance that blends traditional and bistro styles.
